Peanut Festival
Plains, GA is the peanut capital of the US. Aside from peanuts, it is also famous for being the hometown and current residence of former president and Nobel Peace Prize winner Jimmy Carter. This weekend, September 22-23, will be the 10th annual Peanut Festival.
Peanuts are an important commodity in Georgia which is responsible for a $2.0 billion industry. Georgia’s climate and unique soil make it feasible to grow high-quality peanuts. A few facts about Georgia peanuts from the Georgia Peanut Commission:
