Cheap Eats: Super H Mart

by Chloe on September 5th, 2007

For a guaranteed delicious cheap eats, head on over to Super H Mart (three locations: Duluth, Johns Creek and Riverdale) and try the Korean restaurant inside the supermarket’s food court. With prices starting at $4, you get a big Korean entree, rice, soup, and about 3 Korean appetizers (usually kimchi or pickled veggies like cabbage and radish). Pictured above is the Bulgogi Bibimbap. It’s basically a rice dish complete with vegetables and Korean beef. It is so delicious.

Super H Mart is a Korean-owned one-stop-shop for Asian fruits, vegetables, and dry goods, although they also carry American goods. The fresh seafood section is one of its must-visit, as well as their premises-prepared cooked food.

There’s a Super H Mart I love to shop at outside of Washington, DC. Tons of great produce, some, I have NO idea what it is and a fantastic seafood counter, complete with live tanks. Once, while looking for some conch for conch fritters, it took me about 5 minutes of verbal attempts and visual gesturing to get the name conch understood by anyone in the fish dept. “Conchie” is what they called it. I was a funny exchange.

A Super H opened in my neighborhood earlier this year. A trip there always seems to take way longer than it should because I have to wander every aisle trying to figure out what everything is and how to use it.
