Fernbank Museum of Natural History for Families

The Fernbank Museum of Natural History is a great educational family attraction in Atlanta. Permanent collections at the museum include: A Walk in Time in Georgia, Giants of the Mesozoic, Sensing Nature, Reflections of Culture, The Children’s Discovery Rooms, World of Shells and First Georgians. There are also special treats just for the adults. Every Friday, from January through November, and  from 5:30 to 10 p.m. the Museum has Martinis and Imax, an evening of music, relaxation, and food. Tickets are $15 for adults.

King Tut is coming to Atlanta

King Tut is coming to Atlanta

An exhibit featuring King Tut is coming to Atlanta, according to an announcement made this morning during a press conference Mayor Shirley Franklin. The exhibit features 130 treasures from King Tutankhamun’s tomb and other treasures.  Although there have been previous King Tut exhibits in the United States, this exhibit features items not seen before in earlier exhibits.
The exhibit will premiere at the Atlanta Civic Center, and will be presented by the Michael C. Carlos Museum of Emory University from November 15, 2008 to May 22, 2009. The National Geographic, Arts and Exhibitions International and AEG Exhibitions. The exhibit …read more

There’s no reason to be bored in Atlanta. Get some exercise and an art lesson through the Turner First Thursday Downtown Artswalk, a self-guided art tour held the first and third Thursday of every month. An upcoming exhibit, Shadowdance by Keiko Guest  is on display during a special evening Artswalk from 5 to 8 p.m. on April 3rd at the Rialto Center for Arts at Georgia State University. Shadowdance is a series of black and white photographs displaying dancers in suspended motion. A Look at Friday Night at the High

 

Dozens of people came out to the High Museum to chill and listen to jazz music during Friday Night Jazz at the High. Some patrons sat on the lower floor of the atrium, listening to the Friday night jazz performers while other people walked upstairs to view the art in the gallery. There was a mellow, laid-back atmosphere at the museum, as couples cuddled and friends bantered. The performance, itself was upbeat, and a few people danced. You can also watch artists create original artwork live. Experience body painting or listen to a town hall discussion on Women’s Roles in Society.
If you want to get a little funky. Get on the dance floor and shake it to Chicago-Style Stepping. Of course, a D.J. will be spinning in the back.

Friday Night Jazz at the High

Looking for a romantic, mellow evening of jazz? Well, the High Museum will hold its famous Friday night jazz event this Friday, March 21 from 5 to 10 p.m. at the Robinson Atrium Stint Family Wing.
Jazz trumpeter Marcus Printup will perform. Printup, an up and coming jazz musician has been honored at the National Collegiate Jazz competition. Listen to a little jazz, buy a little food, drink some adult beverages, and chill this Friday.
