For now, we don’t have to worry about traffic delays due to 10th Street road improvements this weekend. So, I think that it will be o.k. to venture out into downtown Atlanta over the next couple of days. The Department of Transportation decided to postpone the project until next weekend due to anticipated showers in the area. To be honest, I rather have the rain than be caught in traffic in downtown Atlanta. The roads in the area reportedly have not been paved for more than 12 years. Don’t  miss the Atlanta Braves’ home opener on Monday, March 31 at 7:10 p.m. against the Pittsburgh Pirates at Turner Field. Tickets are available, now!
The Braves will also play Pittsburgh on Wednesday, April 2nd  at 7:10 p.m. and on Thursday, April 3rd at 7:10 p.m, also at Turner Field. The team will then play the New York Mets on Friday, April 4th,  at 7:35; Saturday, April 5, at 3:55 p.m., and Sunday April 6 at 1:35 p.m. at Turner Field.

Delta Charging $25 for Luggage

Atlanta-based Delta Airlines will begin charging $25 for bags beginning on May 1.The first checked in bag is free, but passengers must pay $25 for any additional bags. Delta is the latest airline to announce extra baggage fees. United and U.S. Airways had previously announced additional fees for extra baggage. Delta’s fee does not apply to people who are flying first class, business class or to top-level frequent fliers. Check out this video on the destruction in Atlanta following a tornado on March 14, 2008. Keep in mind that this probably represents some of the worst damage. Some areas were unharmed by the storm.

Due to the tornado damage in Atlanta on Friday, the St. Patrick’s Day Parade, scheduled for Saturday, March 15 has been cancelled. I’m sure that they cancelled the parade to keep people safe and away from all of the debris downtown.

Some crazy, weird weather has been coming through this spring. A friend of mine who was leaving the gym downtown said that he could hardly see as he drove: Bucket of water were being poured on my car. My windshield wipers could barely turn. Then big pieces of rock were pounding on my car. That was no debris.  It was hail, said Alan a local fitness buff. At this moment, at 11:56 p.m. exit ramps into Atlanta are blocked off.

Black College Expo is on Saturday

The Black College Expo is this Saturday, March 8, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Cobb Galleria Centre at Two Galleria Parkway in Atlanta. College recruiters will discuss entry requirements, financial aid and activities available to students at the expo.  High school juniors and seniors should bring their high school transcripts and SAT and/or ACT scores to possibly get accepted into college at the expo!  Over 50 historically black college and universitities are expected to be represented at the expo.
