Picture Book: Duluth Festival

This weekend marked Duluth Fall Festival’s 25th year. I would say this is the best festival in Georgia. It is so organized and there are so many food options. Every detail has been well-thought of from the picnic tables for people to eat, to the garbage cans that are never left half-full. This year, there were more sponsors and food options including Longhorn Steaks which had an $8-plate that included an 8-oz steak, mashed potatoes, roll, and bottle of water. Shane’s Rib Shack was also there as well as a few other additions this year. …read more

Atlantic Station

Atlantic Station

Atlantic Station started the Live-Work-Play craze in Atlanta. Picture a community where living, working, and playing are within walking distance of each other. Opened in 2005 in midtown Atlanta, this city within a city was even given its own zip code: 30363. It features residential areas, office spaces, shops, restaurants, entertainment, and much more. Today, Atlantic Station continues to attract hordes of people to its neighborhood on a daily basis. I remember back in 2003, when the Art Foundry condominiums (the first residential area to be built in the area) announced initial plans of construction. Before even breaking ground, all …read more

Picture Book: Peanut Festival

Picture Book: Peanut Festival

The Atlanta Traveler went to Plains, GA over the weekend for the annual Peanut Festival. Highlights of the event included a book signing for both President Jimmy Carter and his wife Mrs. Rosalyn Carter whose hometown (and current residence) is Plains. I stood in line under the scorching heat for over an hour to get my book signed. Politics aside, how many times does one get an opportunity to be thisclose to a president, former or current?
Here are other photos…

Peanut Festival

Peanut Festival

Plains, GA is the peanut capital of the US.  Aside from peanuts, it is also famous for being the hometown and current residence of former president and Nobel Peace Prize winner Jimmy Carter.  This weekend, September 22-23, will be the 10th annual Peanut Festival.
Peanuts are an important commodity in Georgia which is responsible for a $2.0 billion industry.  Georgia’s climate and unique soil make it feasible to grow high-quality peanuts.   A few facts about Georgia peanuts from the Georgia Peanut Commission:

Georgia produces 45% of the United States’ peanuts.

Where the streets have two names. Or three.

Where the streets have two names. Or three.

Driving in Atlanta is one of the most stressful activities you’ll ever engage in. For one, traffic is horrendous during rush hour. While there’s traffic in literally all major cities in the world during rush hour, Atlanta’s rush hour goes from 7AM until 8PM. Atlanta’s rush hour extends beyond what is normal for other cities. There’s the morning rush hour (7-9:30AM), lunch rush hour (12Noon-1:30PM), and afternoon rush hour (3:30PM-8PM).
Drivers in Atlanta also seldom never follow the speed limit. Going at least 10 miles over the limit is a must because going any slower will only get you into more …read more

The Police

The Police

You guys, this is definitely one of the must-see concerts of the year.  The Police is going to be in Atlanta on Sunday, November 18.  If you weren’t able to buy tickets in advance last week, there are still some tickets left via Ticketmaster.  I checked TicketsNow and they are showing first row tickets for, get this, $2102 per ticket.  Some of the floor tickets were going for $1659!  Funny how they have this fine print on their site that says, “The Police tickets may be sold for more than the price listed on the ticket.”
The Police is famous for …read more

Mexican Fiesta

Mexican Fiesta

Today marked the commemoration of the 186th anniversary of the Mexican Independence Day. All over the world, Mexicans are celebrating this historic event with a fiesta. Here in Atlanta, the fiesta was held on the grounds outside Santa Fe Mall in Duluth. There were festival rides, several booths selling food, crafts, toys, and other merchandise, and live entertainment provided by well-known performers.
