The entire area that is now Johns Creek was completely unincorporated prior to the formation of the city. The previous poster is being confused by mailing addresses - those are set by the USPS and are independent of city location. Almost all homes and businesses in Johns Creek are now able to use Johns Creek as their city name in their mailing address with their existing ZIP code, but many have chosen to stick with their previous address -- this is surprising since Johns Creek is more affluent than Roswell and Alpharetta, and far more affluent than Duluth. Note too that the entire city is in Fulton County - no part is or ever was in Gwinnett County.

Actually, the city of Johns Creek did not “claim” any parts of Duluth, Alpharetta, or any other city.
